Dracaena Kiwi 6"
Dracaena Kiwi 6"
Light:
• Bright, indirect light is ideal for Dracaena Kiwi. It can tolerate low light, but its growth may slow down, and the variegation may become less pronounced.
• Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Watering:
• Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Dracaenas prefer to dry out slightly between waterings.
• Be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot. In winter, reduce watering frequency as the plant’s growth slows.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. A standard houseplant mix or a blend that includes perlite or sand for aeration is suitable.
• Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water accumulation.
Temperature:
• Dracaena Kiwi thrives in warm temperatures between 65-80°F
• Protect the plant from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F
Humidity:
• This plant prefers moderate humidity (around 40-50%). It can tolerate lower humidity but may benefit from occasional misting.
• If your home is particularly dry, consider using a humidifier or placing a pebble tray with water near the plant.
Fertilizing:
• Fertilize with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
• Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
Pruning and Maintenance:
• Regularly check for dead or yellowing leaves and remove them to maintain the plant’s health and appearance.
• Pruning can also help shape the plant and encourage bushier growth.
Repotting:
• Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use fresh potting mix during repotting.
• The best time to repot is in the spring when the plant is actively growing.
Propagation:
• Dracaena Kiwi can be propagated through stem cuttings. Make sure your cutting has a few healthy leaves and a node for successful rooting.
• Place the cutting in water or directly in moist soil until roots develop.
Pests:
• Watch for common pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
• Good air circulation can help prevent pest problems.
Toxicity:
• Dracaena Kiwi is toxic to pets if ingested, causing symptoms like vomiting or loss of appetite. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
