Pilea Nummulariifolia 4”

Pilea Nummulariifolia 4”

Light:

Pilea nummulariifolia thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

It can tolerate lower light conditions, but the plant may become leggy and lose some of its vibrant green color.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Avoid letting the plant sit in water, as this can lead to root rot.

In the winter, reduce watering slightly, but don’t let the plant completely dry out.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix. You can create a suitable mix by combining regular potting soil with perlite or sand to improve drainage.

Temperature:

Pilea nummulariifolia prefers temperatures between 60-75°F

Keep it away from cold drafts or temperature extremes, as this plant doesn’t tolerate cold well.

Humidity:

This plant enjoys high humidity, as it originates from tropical regions.

Mist the plant regularly or place it near a humidifier, especially in dry climates or during winter when indoor air is drier.

Alternatively, place the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles to increase humidity around the plant.

Fertilizing:

Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength.

No need to fertilize during the winter months.

Pruning and Propagation:

Prune regularly to maintain a compact shape and encourage bushier growth.

This plant is easy to propagate from stem cuttings. Simply cut a stem below a node, let it dry for a few hours, and place it in water or moist soil. Roots should develop within a couple of weeks.

Repotting:

Repot the plant when it becomes root-bound, typically every 1-2 years. Use a slightly larger pot and fresh soil.

Pests:

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
