Bromeliads have colorful, long-lasting blooms (which last for weeks) that contrast beautifully against the strappy green leaves. You'll typically see them flower in shades of pink, red, orange, and yellow. This beautiful tropical showy houseplant is a fun addition to any sunny space you may have.

Light

• Most bromeliads prefer bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sun.

• Varieties with softer, green leaves prefer shadier conditions, while those with thicker, spiky leaves can handle more sun.

Watering

• Water sparingly but consistently. Bromeliads have a central “cup” or tank in the middle of their rosette where they naturally collect water.

• Keep this cup filled with filtered or rainwater, refreshing it every week or two to prevent stagnation and bacteria buildup.

• Water the soil lightly when it becomes dry, but avoid keeping it too damp to prevent root rot.

Humidity & Temperature

• Bromeliads love high humidity (50-70%). If indoors, mist them occasionally or place them near a humidifier.

• Ideal temperatures range from 60-80°F. Avoid exposure to frost.

Soil & Potting

• Use a well-draining mix, such as orchid bark, sphagnum moss, or a mix of peat and sand.

• A shallow pot with good drainage works best since bromeliads have small root systems.

Fertilizing

• Use a diluted liquid fertilizer (half-strength) every 1-2 months during the growing season (spring and summer).

• Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can damage the plant and affect blooming.

Propagation

• After blooming, the mother plant will produce offsets (“pups”). Once they are about 1/3 the size of the parent, they can be separated and replanted.
