Calathea Zebrina 6"

Calathea Zebrina 6"

Light:

Indirect Light: Calathea Zebrina thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Low Light: It can tolerate lower light levels, but its growth may slow down and the patterns on its leaves may fade.

Watering:

Consistent Moisture: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Avoid Tap Water: Calatheas are sensitive to minerals and chemicals in tap water. Use filtered or distilled water if possible, or let tap water sit out overnight.

Humidity:

High Humidity: Calatheas love humidity. Keep the humidity level around 60% or higher to prevent the edges of the leaves from browning. You can use a humidifier, mist the plant regularly, or place it on a pebble tray with water.

Avoid Dry Air: Keep it away from heaters or air conditioning vents, which can dry out the air.

Temperature:

Warm Temperatures: Ideal temperature is between 65-75°F. Keep it away from drafts or cold windows.

Soil:

Well-Draining Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix with good aeration. A mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well.

Fertilizing:

Monthly Feeding: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every month. Reduce feeding in fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.

Pruning and Cleaning:

Remove Dead Leaves: Trim off any yellow or dying leaves to maintain its appearance and encourage new growth.

Wipe the Leaves: Keep the large leaves free of dust by wiping them gently with a damp cloth.

Repotting:

Every 1-2 Years: Repot your Calathea Zebrina every year or two, especially if it becomes root-bound.

Pests:

Spider Mites and Aphids: Regularly check for pests like spider mites, which are common in dry conditions. If you spot pests, treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
