Dracaena Rikki 6”
Light:
• Bright, indirect light is ideal for Dracaena Rikki. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but the colors may become less vibrant.
• Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Watering:
• Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out before watering. Dracaena prefers to be on the drier side rather than too moist.
• Water less frequently in the winter when the plant’s growth slows down, but ensure it doesn’t dry out completely.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. A standard houseplant mix with added perlite or sand for aeration works well.
• Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.
Temperature:
• Dracaena Rikki thrives in warm conditions between 65-80°F
• Keep it away from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F
Humidity:
• This plant prefers moderate humidity levels. It can tolerate average household humidity but benefits from higher humidity.
• If the air is too dry, especially in winter, consider misting the leaves or using a humidifier.
Fertilizing:
• Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
• Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when growth slows.
Pruning and Maintenance:
• Prune any dead or yellowing leaves to keep the plant looking tidy.
• You can also trim back leggy growth to encourage bushier foliage.
Repotting:
• Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining soil.
• The best time to repot is in spring, as the plant is actively growing.
Propagation:
• Dracaena Rikki can be propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy stem segment with a few leaves, let it callous over for a day, and then place it in water or moist soil until roots develop.
Pests:
• Common pests include spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Regularly check your plant for signs of pests and treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Toxicity:
• Dracaena is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep the plant out of reach of curious pets and children.
