Ficus Shivereana 6”

Ficus Shivereana 6”

Light Requirements

Ficus Shivereana in the rubber tree family, does best in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light may cause its variegation to fade.

If natural light is limited, consider placing it under a grow light for a few hours a day.

Watering

Ficus Shivereana prefers a moderate watering schedule. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Use a pot with drainage holes to ensure any excess water can escape.

During winter, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows down.

Humidity and Temperature

Ficus Shivereana enjoys moderate to high humidity. If you live in a dry climate or keep it indoors, consider using a humidifier or place it near other plants to increase moisture in the air.

Keep the temperature between 65-85°F. Avoid placing it near drafts, heaters, or air conditioning vents.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix, preferably a blend designed for tropical plants or indoor foliage. A mix of peat, perlite, and some orchid bark works well to keep roots from sitting in water.

Good drainage is key to preventing root rot.

Fertilizing

Feed Ficus Shivereana with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).

Avoid fertilizing in the fall and winter when growth naturally slows down.

Pruning

Prune any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy and encourage new growth.

You can also trim the stems to control its shape and size, which can stimulate bushier growth.

Repotting

Repot Ficus Shivereana every 1-2 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot one size larger than the current one to give it room to grow.

Refresh the soil each time you repot to ensure it has adequate nutrients.

Pest Control

Ficus Shivereana can occasionally attract pests like spider mites, mealybugs, or scale. Regularly inspect the leaves and stems for any signs of pests.

Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or treat with insecticidal soap if you notice pests.

Leaf Cleaning

Keep the variegated leaves looking their best by gently wiping them with a damp, soft cloth. This removes dust and helps the plant absorb more light.
