Jasmine 6”
Jasmine 6”
Light:
• Full sun to partial shade is ideal for Jasmine. It thrives with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
• If grown indoors, place it near a south-facing window or provide bright, indirect light.
Watering:
• Jasmine prefers consistently moist soil. Water regularly, especially during the growing season, but make sure the soil is well-draining to avoid waterlogging.
• Reduce watering in the winter months when the plant is not actively growing.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. Jasmine grows well in rich, organic soil with good aeration.
• If planting outdoors, ensure the soil has good drainage to prevent root rot.
Temperature:
• Jasmine enjoys warm temperatures between 60-75°F
• Protect it from frost and cold drafts, as it’s sensitive to temperatures below 40°F
• If you live in a colder climate, bring the plant indoors during winter.
Humidity:
• Jasmine enjoys high humidity, especially indoors. Consider misting the plant, using a pebble tray, or placing it near a humidifier if the air is dry.
• If grown outdoors in humid climates, natural moisture will generally be sufficient.
Fertilizing:
• Feed Jasmine with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
• Use a fertilizer high in potassium to encourage blooming.
• Stop fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
Pruning and Maintenance:
• Prune Jasmine regularly after it blooms to keep the plant neat and to encourage bushier growth.
• Pruning also helps control its size and shape, especially for vining varieties.
• Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to keep the plant healthy.
Repotting:
• Repot the plant every 2-3 years in spring, or when it outgrows its container. Use fresh, well-draining soil.
• If growing outdoors, make sure the planting area is spacious enough for the plant to spread.
Propagation:
• Jasmine can be easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy stem with at least one node and place it in water or moist soil until roots develop.
• Alternatively, layering is another propagation method where a low branch is bent to the ground and covered with soil until it roots.
Pests and Diseases:
• Jasmine may be prone to pests like aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Regularly inspect the plant and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
• Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases like powdery mildew.
Flowering:
• Jasmine typically blooms in spring and summer, producing fragrant white, yellow, or pink flowers.
• Ensure the plant receives enough sunlight and proper care to encourage more prolific blooming.
