Money Tree 10"
Money Tree 10"
Light:
• Money Trees prefer bright, indirect light. They can tolerate low light but thrive best in medium to bright conditions.
• Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. A spot near an east- or south-facing window with filtered light works well.
Watering:
• Water the plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid letting it get soggy.
• Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain out of the pot. Ensure that the plant is never sitting in water, as this can lead to root rot.
• During the winter, reduce watering slightly as the plant’s growth slows down, but do not let the soil dry out completely.
Humidity:
• Money Trees prefer high humidity, but they can adapt to average indoor humidity levels.
• To increase humidity, you can mist the plant regularly, use a humidity tray, or place it near a humidifier, especially in dry environments or during winter.
Temperature:
• The ideal temperature range for a Money Tree is between 65°F and 80°F.
• Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F. Extreme temperature changes can stress the plant and cause leaf drop.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a general houseplant mix with added perlite or sand to improve drainage.
• Make sure the pot has drainage holes to allow excess water to escape, preventing waterlogged soil.
Fertilizer:
• Fertilize your Money Tree during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.
• Stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant is not actively growing.
Pruning:
• Prune your Money Tree to maintain its shape and remove any dead or yellowing leaves. Trim back leggy growth to promote bushier growth.
• You can also prune the top of the plant to control its height if it gets too tall for your space.
Repotting:
• Repot your Money Tree every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Spring is the best time to repot.
• Choose a slightly larger pot and use fresh, well-draining potting soil.
Braiding:
• If your Money Tree has a braided trunk, you can continue to braid new growth as it matures. Be gentle when doing this to avoid damaging the plant.
• Braiding is purely aesthetic and does not affect the health of the plant.
Pest Control:
• Money Trees are relatively resistant to pests, but they can occasionally attract mealybugs, spider mites, or scale.
• Check the plant regularly for signs of pests, particularly on the undersides of the leaves. If pests are found, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
General Care:
• Rotate the plant every few weeks to ensure even growth, as it may lean toward the light.
• Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust, helping the plant photosynthesize more effectively.
Signs of Stress:
• Yellowing leaves: This can indicate overwatering or poor drainage. Check the soil and adjust your watering schedule accordingly.
• Drooping leaves: This can be caused by either too much or too little water. Check the moisture level of the soil and water accordingly.
• Brown leaf edges: This is often a sign of low humidity. Try increasing the humidity around the plant by misting or using a humidifier.
