Poinsettia Red 6”
Poinsettia Red 6”
Light:
• Place your poinsettia in bright, indirect light. They prefer at least 6 hours of light daily but avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Temperature:
• Maintain a temperature between 65–75°F during the day. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, cold air, or temperatures below 50°F
Watering:
• Water when the soil feels dry to the touch, but do not let the plant sit in standing water. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
• Remove any decorative foil wrapping or poke holes in it to allow water to drain.
Humidity:
• Poinsettias prefer moderate humidity. If your home is very dry, consider misting the plant occasionally or placing it near a tray of water with pebbles.
Fertilizer:
• Fertilize monthly with a balanced, all-purpose houseplant fertilizer only after the blooming season ends (typically in spring and summer).
After the Holidays:
• To keep your poinsettia thriving, prune it back to about 4–6 inches in late winter or early spring once the leaves begin to drop.
• Repot if necessary, and place it outdoors in a partly shaded spot during the summer.
Re-blooming:
• In the fall, poinsettias need 14–16 hours of complete darkness each night for 8–10 weeks to encourage blooming. Cover it with a box or place it in a dark closet during this period, then return it to bright light during the day.
