Light
- Indoors: Bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may grow slower and have smaller leaves.
- Outdoors: Partial shade. Protect from direct, intense sunlight which can scorch the leaves.
Temperature
- Optimal Range: 65-80°F (18-27°C).
- Avoid: Temperatures below 50°F (10°C) and sudden temperature fluctuations.
Humidity
- Preferred: Moderate to high humidity.
- Tips: Use a humidity tray, mist the leaves regularly, or use a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity levels, especially in dry indoor environments.
Watering
- Frequency: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.
- Method: Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain out of the pot. Reduce watering in the winter months.
- Tips: Avoid overwatering and ensure the plant is not sitting in water to prevent root rot.
Soil
- Type: Well-draining potting mix.
- Preferred: A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and a little compost or sand works well.
Fertilization
- Frequency: Every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Type: Balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Pruning
- Purpose: To maintain shape and remove any dead or yellowing leaves.
- Method: Trim back any dead or damaged leaves at the base with clean, sharp scissors. Prune to control size and shape as needed.
Repotting
- Frequency: Every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
- Pot Size: Increase pot size by 2-4 inches in diameter.
- Tips: Repot in the spring for best results.
Propagation
- Method: Stem cuttings or air layering.
- Steps: For stem cuttings, take 4-6 inch cuttings from healthy stems, remove the lower leaves, dip the cut end in rooting hormone, and place in a well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil moist until roots develop. For air layering, create a small wound on a healthy stem, wrap it with moist sphagnum moss, and cover with plastic wrap until roots develop, then cut and plant.

- Common Pests: Aphids, spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects.
- Treatment: Use insecticidal soap, neem oil, or wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove pests.
- Common Issues: Yellowing leaves, wilting, and root rot.

Special Tips
- Avoid: Placing the plant near cold drafts or heating vents.
- Rotate: The plant periodically to ensure even growth and light exposure.
