Light

• Prefers full sun (6+ hours daily).
• If indoors, place it near a bright, sunny window or use a strong grow light (6500K spectrum).

Watering

• Use distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water only (tap water contains minerals that can harm it).
• Keep the soil constantly moist by placing the pot in a shallow tray of water (tray method).
• Never let it dry out.

Humidity & Temperature

• Prefers 50-80% humidity, though it can tolerate lower humidity.
• Grows best in temperatures of 60-85°F but can tolerate short periods of frost

Soil & Potting

• Use a mix of peat moss and perlite (50:50) or sphagnum moss.
• Avoid fertilizer and regular potting soil—it can harm the plant.
• Use a plastic or glazed ceramic pot to retain moisture.

Feeding

• Sundews catch their own food
• Avoid overfeeding; a few bugs per month are enough.
• Do not fertilize—this can kill the plant.

Dormancy

• Unlike some carnivorous plants, D. capensis does not require dormancy, but growth may slow in winter.
• If it dies back in cold weather, it can regrow from the roots in spring.

Pruning & Maintenance

• Trim dead leaves to keep the plant healthy.
• If flower stalks appear, you can let them bloom, but they may reduce leaf production.
